Before you buy one of our boats you might be interested to hear what your options are. Read all about the differences in this post and learn if you’re still unsure feel free to contact us. Standard vs Racing Hull The differences and options are quite easy, all models come in a standard or racing version. Which determines the length of the hull, either 4-meters for the standard or 5-meters for the racing hull. Why? The longer hulls make your boat faster with increased comfort. But people looking for agility and less weight do not benefit from the longer hulls, that’s
We live in paradise, with Lake Taupo & Huka Falls on our doorstep and the opportunity to be overlooking the mountains such as Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park whilst sailing is just perfect. We have been thinking how to get this across and let you enjoy it as much as we do. The solution was to get the gear out and invest in a Nikon 360° action camera to shoot some shots of the amazing environment in New Zealand. To get the optimal experience click on the image and move (‘look’) around. If this is not working for you we
Today we were busy shooting new drone footage for our summer promotion video this year. We used a DJI Mavic Pro, GoPro Hero 6 and an Apple iPhone to record all of our videos. The boat we brought out on the lake was a Smartkat Adventure, the standard version which resulted in beautiful images. The wind was there and we were able to fly on one hull and get some high-speed images. Lake Taupo was a good place for us to shoot our videos because it’s easy to access and as we do not need a boat ramp we can
One of the things to do in Taupo last weekend was to sail one of our boats at the Smartkat Demonstration Day. It was a great day out with our Smartkat Adventure and Performance Racing stealing the show. The weather was perfect, blue skies and sunny with a little bit of wind picking up in the afternoon. It was a great opportunity for us to show what the boats can do and to take some kids out on the lake and learn them to sail. It’s surprisingly easy to teach the kids how to control the genoa and what they
We were out sailing in Tauranga at Mount Maunganui last week. The ocean was gentle and there was some wind. Enough to cruise around the iconic ‘Mount’ with our boat and enjoy a lunch break on the shore at Dixie Browns . If you’re ever looking for things to do in Tauranga or Mount Maunganui this is a great day activity because you can combine shopping with being at the beach and on the salt water. The place is known for surfing but it’s actually nice to go sailing here as well. Find out more about it here. The Mount is
We’ve been out sailing on Lake Taupo this weekend, our destination was Kuratau. We didn’t need a boat ramp so we decided to set up our Smartkat on the beach. Although there was not a lot of wind the weather was fine and good enough for a nice afternoon sailing session. We could see the mountains of the Kaimanawa Ranges and Mt. Pihanga overlooking Turangi and the Tongariro River. Behind our boat, the trout were jumping up but we didn’t bring any fishing gear to catch something. The water temperature was 11.7 degrees Celsius at Acacia Bay which lies west of
